
Hot enough for you? ๐ The Mérida English Library offers a wide variety of cool reads for those lazy summer days, but we raise the temperature in June with a special Bingo Night featuring a performance by disco drag queen Bárbara La Montiel. Plus there are a variety of options to put your body in motion as Tai Chi returns this month and Pilates continues. Don’t worry - these events take place in our air-conditioned classroom! Read below for more information about these and other activities MEL has to offer this month.
Remember, MEL continues its regular hours: Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and in the afternoons on Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and Wednesday and Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. You can return books through the slot in the front door at any time.

Do you wonder how Mérida can become a climate-change-ready community? Are you interested in local and global climate solutions? Join the Climate Solutions Study Group — a diverse and friendly group of people of all ages and backgrounds who are actively learning about and supporting real climate solutions. We meet on the third Friday of each month at 11:00 a.m. at the Mérida English Library.

Mark your calendars for a special June Bingo Night as we celebrate ๐ณ๏ธ๐Pride Month๐ณ๏ธ๐. Join us on Saturday, June 21 to play bingo the traditional way, and enjoy the performance of the fabulous drag queen Bárbara La Montiel and her wild Disco Fantasy.
The doors open at 6:45 pm and finish by 9 pm. We’ll play five rounds of bingo and you can enjoy drinks from our cash bar. Purchase your bingo cards ($150 for a set of five) at the door or online in the MEL Shop. The winner of each game collects half the earnings for that round. Join us on June 21 for a night of fun, fantasy and cash prizes!

Join fellow amateur writers at MEL for prose and poetry readings. We’ll gather in the MEL classroom on June 17 starting at 6:15 PM to share ten-minute excerpts of our work. This is a once-a-month meeting, and the next event will be on July 15. Visit our website for more information.

MEL is hosting a mixed-language not-for-profit community support group empowering people to grow and improve in different areas of their lives (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, relational, professional and financial) through continuous learning and the support of a group that focuses on personal development.

Conversciones con Amigos. MEL’s popular language-exchange program, is an activity for English and Spanish practice that takes place Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on the patio. No matter the level, join us for practicing conversation, meet new people, and make more friends!
This program does not provide classes or lessons. Our goal is to socialize as you practice and improve language skills. It is designed for adults 18 +, and is open to the public but with limited seating for 60 participants. You can register only at the door; advance registration is not accepted.
This is a free activity for MEL members, and non-members are asked to make a donation of $20. Please send us an email (info@meridaenglishlibrary.com) for more information.

All writers living in Mérida's vicinity, regardless of level of experience, are welcome to attend the Writers Group meetings in the classroom at MEL, alternate Wednesdays, including June 4 and June 18, at 11:00 AM. Come join other enthusiasts for an exchange of ideas.

The Fiction & Friends book club will gather on June 26 to discuss Under the Eye of the Big Bird by Hiromi Kawakami — an ideal book for readers who enjoy introspective, speculative narratives exploring humanity's future through innovative ecological and reproductive systems.

The patio of the Mérida English Library becomes a place where music, stories, arts & crafts projects, and friends meet to create a fabulous energy the whole family can enjoy! MEL StoryTime is a free program open to the general public, and is intended to encourage the habit of reading in children and their families, and to motivate imagination, creativity, vocabulary and English language skills.
Storytime will be held on June 14 & June 28 starting at 10:00 AM. Space is limited and registration is required. Click here to register for either or both.
The StoryTime Committee is constantly organizing new activities to provide a great experience every time you visit. The books and activities are different for each StoryTime, and focus on a theme such as well-being, health, history, nature, science, etc. Upcoming StoryTime programs will be posted a week in advance on social media. Embark on a journey of balance and harmony with tai chi classes! Tai chi improves your coordination, alignment, breathing, coordination, concentration, and memory. Join Mónica González Tuesdays and Thursdays in June 9:30 – 10:30 AM. Classes are $100 per session or you can purchase all eight sessions for the reduced price of $500. Richard Poe is a classically trained, fourth generation Pilates teacher. He is skilled in working with a variety of populations; clients recovering from severe injury, novice and advanced students and athletes. You should expect an accessible 55-minute group class focused on Classical Pilates Exercises that will challenge you but also help you regain mobility, length, flexibility and strength. You should also expect to improve breathing capacity and organ function while stimulating circulation through muscular flexibility, joint range of motion, and proper musculoskeletal alignment. All student levels will feel comfortable in attending. Students should only bring a mat; a Pilates–specific mat is preferred but not required.
Join Richie at MEL on Fridays 11:00 am – 12:00 in our air-conditioned classroom. Register online in the MEL Shop for a single session for $200 or take advantage of a special $700 monthly fee.

The Spanish Lessons at MEL will have their last sessions of the season in June. Visit MEL on Wednesdays and Fridays and jump in the ongoing courses in our air-conditioned classroom.
We invite you to take a free trial class, and then you can register for a month ($800 pesos). Materials are included.

The MEL Summer Camp is back!
On our 3rd edition, we invite girls and boys from 7 to 10 years old to live this fun experience at MEL. Starting on July 21st until August 2nd, the Mérida English Library will be open to the local and expat community to learn and practice English language through activities focused on reading, art, and adventure.
